Grade 6 students at one of our Catholic elementary schools created small scenes and skits to demonstrate their understanding of what it feels like to be a newcomer to Canada. Students then collected furniture and clothing to give to families new to our community and in need of items to build a home. ‘Helping with Furniture’ is a charitable organization in the Ottawa area that has furnished the homes of hundreds of new community members. Not only is the organization promoting a more environmental way of living and sharing, they are creating community in helping people understand the hardship of many refugee and immigrant families.
