One of our school’s SAWS (Students Achieving Workplace Skills) classes spent two days at the Waupoos Family Farm* and built a wheelchair ramp for a young Girl. One of our SLICE (Students Learning in Culinary Environments) classes came with us and provided us lunch for both days. We all had different jobs to do. There was mowing the lawn, raking leaves and cleaning a trail. We all had lots of fun and we were all happy with what we had accomplished in those two days. Five students worked on the ramp, three on the trail, two mowing the lawn and two raking the leaves. The chaplain at Notre Dame High School was there and we had a great prayer session.
When we were there we really saw God's creation, there were big trees, the animals and kids having so much fun. When I worked on the ramp I got to use a sledgehammer, it was really fun. After we were all done we got to go play some basketball and hockey. We got to see the animals that were there. We saw cats, rabbits, chickens and there were two goats. I was really afraid of the goats because I thought they might bite me and I got to hold a chicken for the first time ever. Waupoos Family Farm was very fun.

* The Waupoos Farm is a vacation place for families who would not otherwise be able to afford a holiday. They run weekend programs year round as well as a full 8-week summer camp. The farm is located in Ottawa South.
