| Note to Teachers:
The sets of images contained in the resources below have been compiled to help demonstrate how visual art has been used through the ages in the service of God. As students explore these images, the concepts might become more tangible and offer them the opportunity to make direct applications of the virtues to everyday life. This was the original intent of the artists who designed these works for their viewing audiences. Nothing happened by “accident” in these pieces, and so everything is included with reason. You are invited to take your time with students and explore each work of art, how it was created, how it educated then, and how it might be effective today.
One set has been highly developed and offers context, artist biographies as well as suggestions for visually analyzing the works of art. The second set encourages you to use what has been learned through the examination of the first set and explore more fully a range of works produced in relation to the virtues.
Enjoy.
